These comments relate to the Hornady 174grn RNSP .312″ diameter bullet, used in a .303 British rifle against two of the deer species we have resident in the UK, namely the roe and muntjac deer.
I have shot quite a few of both types of deer using this bullet and results have been excellent every time. The bullets seem to put the deer down very quickly, or instantly when placed in the chest cavity. Mostly they provide full penetration and produce a good sized exit wound. The very few bullets I have ever retrieved from the animals I have shot have shown very good expansion with large, sharp petals which cause severe tissue damage on the way through. My accurate load with these bullets produces just a bit less than 2400 fps at the muzzle, and, in my experience that level suits the bullet well.
